common application

At the age of 13, I made my first decision that can influence my whole life. I was fully enthusiastic in playing the flute. Fortunately, I had talent because I learned new songs and skills quickly and easily. So the teachers encouraged me to be a flutist.
When I imagined playing the flute in front of hundreds of audience, I was so excited. With beautiful dresses and audience’s affable looking, I regard myself as princess. Fascinated by the image of flutist, I decide to become a flutist.
In Korea, to become an artist, getting into an art middle school or high school is almost necessary. So I prepared to enter the art middle school. Most kids prepare for the school at least 2years. Different from them, I began the first step of musician only 6 months before the entrance exam.
Many people around me doubted my goal. Event though they did not directly tell me that it is impossible to get into the art school, I could feel their expression through their look. A woman said, “You are too late. Also, there are a lot of kids who are really good at flute so it is hard to enter the art school.” Yet, I did not consider others concern and trusted myself. I believed that I can be the art school student.
To improve my flute ability, the only thing I should do was practicing. I played the flute 8hours a day. Many people were surprised at my practicing hours because I was the first student who practicing the longest hours among my teachers’ students. I tried to develop my ability by not only practicing long hours, but also participating in a drama.
At that time I was so shy that I could not express myself well. For artist, the expression is the most important part because the art is a way of representing oneself. The drama academy changed my negative and shy personality into positive personality.
A week before the entrance performance, the sarcastic woman said, “You won yourself. Your ability grew so enormously that I bet you will succeed in the performance.” Also, my teacher told me that I was the best student whose ability improved the most. Even though I did not get in to art school, I learned precious thing from this experience. To me, ‘Impossible’ can not be possible.
